Several research studies have confirmed that meditation is very effective at reducing stress. Despite this, many stress sufferers are not practicing meditation for different reasons. In this article, we will show you how easy it is to get started with meditation and use it to manage your stress problem.

There is no need to Fear Meditation

A lot of people believe that meditation is only for religious people. This is not true at all. They think that they need to practice Buddhism or some other religion so that they can practice meditation. Others believe that they will have to start living like a monk to get the benefits from meditation.

Anyone can learn and practice meditation. Many people who practice it are not religious in any way. They know that it is an effective way to relax them, make them calm, and think clearly. There is no reason that you need to fear meditation.

It is Easy to Get Started with Meditation

These days, there are many resources online to help you to learn how to practice meditation. You will find many instructional videos on YouTube for example that will show you exactly what you need to do.

There are even apps available for smartphones that will guide your meditation sessions. Some of these apps cost a little money but they can be worth it in the long run. If you do not want to pay to learn meditation then you do not have to. Plenty of free resources are available online.

Get Started with Guided Meditation

One of the easiest ways to get started is to use guided meditation. This is where you are guided by an audio recording or a video every step of the way with your meditation. By using guided meditation, you will know exactly what you need to do at every stage.

When you use guided meditation, it will help you to direct your focus inwardly. You will learn that you need to maintain your inward focus at all times when you are meditating. There are free audio recordings and videos about guided meditation online and there are also resources that you can pay for.

It will not take you a long time to perform a guided meditation session. When you first start you can keep your sessions as short as ten minutes. To get the best results with guided meditation you need to find somewhere comfortable to sit. Do not use a bed or a sofa as these can be too comfortable and you may fall asleep.

The guide will instruct you to focus on the sounds that you can hear to start with. You will be told to listen to all of these sounds carefully and make out the different ones. It doesn’t matter what kind of sounds you hear.

Now you will be ready to focus inwards. The guide will ask you how you are feeling at this point. Focus your attention on all areas of your body from the top of your head to the soles of your feet. Then you will focus on your beating heart and your breathing.

Practice Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation will help to relax you and clear your mind quickly. It is often included with guided meditation but if it isn’t then you can learn it on its own. With mindfulness meditation, you can quickly detach yourself from your thoughts. Practicing mindfulness meditation is an effective way of gaining clarity and reducing your stress.
